Wagner Wild West Manufacturing is creating its manufacturing overhead budget for the year of 2010. Costs are broken into variable and fixed components. Depreciation was on a straight-line basis, and there were no new expenditures for fixed assets during the year or planned for next year, and no sales or retirements of existing fixed assets planned for next year. Amortization is on patents for a manufacturing design and is amortized at $18,400 per year. Amortization costs (non-cash) are spread equally throughout all periods per year. Amortization of patents is based on a seven-year life rather than 20 because of the accelerated activity in technology improvements evident in the industry; hence the value of these patents will reduce much more rapidly than normally expected.The following variable costs per unit are as follows: Indirect materials are $3.14, indirect labor is $5.25, and maintenance is $2.46. Janitorial is $1.13 and is subcontracted to RSC Facility Management Corp.Quality Control has recently been upgraded and its cost increased from $0.84 to $1.02 per D/L hour.
