Treatment Programs
For people who get into trouble much, correctional treatment programs are effective. What is
needed is to teach these people a better way to become better people while still functioning well in the
community. They learn to live better in an environment where they can be taught new behavior and new
beliefs, and gain skills to get them back into the community and reduce the recidivism rate of the
offender.
They are effective with some as academic and vocational education, Reasoning and
Rehabilitation, Moral Recognition Therapy, Cognitive-behavioral treatment and restructuring, and Multi-
systemic treatment working well. The tool used to evaluate include those as program implementation,
both staff and program characteristics, and pre-service evaluation to the client — some work due to the
curriculum clearly defining what is expected by the end of the program, while still determining the needs
and risks of the offender (Sutherland, 1947). The facilitators guide providing instructions may be apparent
to the trainer. For some programs, the approaches may be hazy with the goals undefined, delivery
methods being inadequate, the ratio of the trainer to the offender being too large, or lack of funds,
therefore being ineffective.
Let us use an example of a Domestic Violence Program, operated at a male maximum security
prison with the use of psycho-education which emphasizes and instructs inmates on and about, their
problem, recognizing the signs in relapsing by use of cognitive behavioral techniques and motivational
interviews. The curriculum was based on eight modules, for 12 weeks, 2 hours a day and with a total of
90 men with 10 in a class
Though the use of treatment models were easy to follow, the inmates got trainers to who they
were not compatible. Such differences in temperaments bring about arguments and decreased the
effectiveness in the recovery of the inmate. Such a module is probably likely to have a lower success rate.
While program evaluation did not work, a facilitator’s guide, outlining the lessons and time, worked.
Despite having the scheduling of the module, it states the regulations to be taken. Inmates are required to
maintain order and their confidentiality enhanced. Reward and punishment are emphasized in class and so
is participating in structured activities. This increased the success rate of the correcting behavior.
It has been found that there are programs effective such as observing the curriculum, taking part
in classes and its activities and the actual applying of what is taught. There is however a lack of funding
and eager staff and sufficient resources from the facilitators to implement these programs.
