You will participate in a face-to-face, high fidelity, clinical simulation (SIM) scenario based on inter professional teamwork. Drawing on this experience, respond to two questions below.
Question 1: Planning person-centered care
During the simulation, Mr Shepherd experienced lower back pain
Reflecting upon your simulation experience and drawing upon current and relevant peer reviewed literature, respond to the following tasks using academic writing style:
a) Describe how pain was assessed during your simulation and interpret your findings in relation to what you know about Mr Shepherd from the case study and the underlying pathophysiology.
b) Considering Mr Shepherds past and present medical history, describe and justify the approach that should have been taken to comprehensively assess his pain. Integrate current and relevant evidence to support your response.
c) State what the ongoing goal for care would be for Mr Shepherd related to pain management and briefly discuss two (2) evidence based independent nursing interventions to meet this goal
Question 2: Effective communication: documenting progress notes
After implementing the interventions described above, Mr Shepherd reported his pain was 2/10 and he rested comfortably in bed for the remainder of the shift.
Use the SBAR framework to write a progress note in Mr Shepherds medical file related to the Situation of his complaint of lower back pain. Your entry should relate directly to your simulation experience and include assessment data collected and actions taken to address the problem of pain from your simulation.
