Task: Many professions have organisations or professional bodies or associations that provide guidelines for conduct/ ethics/ professional practice within that profession. A lot of time, money and effort goes into creating these but how aware are the individuals working in these professions of these guidelines and do they influence their day to day actions at their workplace. You are required to conduct some online research and to conduct an interview with a person who is a professional. The definition of professional is provided on Interact. For example, an accountant, banker, or manager who is a member of AIM (Australian Institute of Management) would be classed as a professional where as a Nail Technician would not be.Your online research needs to be done on a professional association/ body such as the ones listed in the first assessment. Then armed with an understanding of what the professional bodies guidelines are you need to interview an individual working in the profession you researched to gain an understanding of their knowledge of these guidelines and how much they influence their behaviour and thinking at work. You need to devise a series of interview questions to understand how ethics and professional behaviour impacts individuals in their real work life. These can be conducted face to face, or by telephone, or as a last choice by email. You may want to elaborate or ask other questions once you have heard the answers.Research a professional body to understand what issues arise for the professional body and how they police their code? How do they communicate it to their members? Are there legal ramifications if the code is breached? Do they have to do continual education? Etc. You can if you wish contact the professional body to ask some of these questions.Speak with an individual to understand how aware are they of their professional bodys codes .What influence do these codes have on their behaviour? What can the consequences be for them in their career if they breach either their professional bodys code or the organisations code/s?Then reflect on what this means for you in your career and what actions should you take to ensure that you are always acting professionally and ethically. Which professional body might you need to or want to join? Also reflect on the similarities and differences between the professional body and the individual working in a profession. Do you think they both give adherence to the codes the same importance?
