Consult your supervisor about a child that you could observe and plan for. This child will need to have additional needs or barrier to learning.
Step 1 1. Discuss strategies to support the childs entry into the service 2. Reflect on the level of support that may be required. When would this be reviewed? 3. What strategies would you use to inform staff so: a. that they have inclusive attitudes and b. how would you engage them in inclusive practices? 4. Discuss how you would research physical, sensory or developmental disability
Step 2 1. Write observations on the child 2. Analyse and interpret observations 3. List ideas for future planning with consideration for cultural values, needs and requirements
Step 3 1. Use information gathered to collaborate and discuss curriculum development and concerns. Information should include: Abilities Goals Interests Expectations Health status 2. Develop a plan with strategy for the child in consultation with family and professionals 3. List adaptions to equipment or environment
Step 4 1. Records any impact of strategy on child 2. Identify and respond to barriers to the strategies 3. reviews strategies used 4. Identifies and discusses any issues of concern with supervisor 5. Exchanges information with stakeholders 6. Ensures that family is consulted prior to sharing information with others
Task 2 1. In your workplace/prac centre read through the policies and procedures then in your own words describe the inclusive/equity policy (refer to literature as support) 2. Does the Centres Philosophy promote inclusive/equity practices? Please explain how it does or does not. 3. Discuss why is it important to provide information to others (staff, parents, children and all stakeholders) about inclusive practices? 4. Look at the services local community. What could you use to allow children to explore what is in their environment? How could this be used in the program?

5. What is the services procedure for a child who may be at risk of harm or illness? What is your role within this procedure? You may photocopy the inclusive/equity policy and philosophy of the Centre where you are doing your prac in (with the Centres approval).
Task 3 1. List all areas in the room that are inclusive practices and resources (anti-biased and multicultural). 2. How do these practices and resources uphold all childrens rights to have their cultures, identities, abilities and strengths acknowledge and valued in curriculum decision making. 3. Discuss how negativity affects bias could have, on a child. Describe one issue. 4. Explain what issues could arise in a non-multicultural, non-equity/inclusive centre and what impact this would have on families and their children from diverse cultures. 5. What rules and regulations are in place to avoid centres from becoming exclusive? Education and Care Services National Regulations , ACECQA National Quality Standards and Code of Ethics, United Nations Rights of the Child 6. How do centres provide a supportive approach to children with additional needs? List some of the services available.
Task 4 Make a resource that demonstrates inclusivity multicultural, community relevant, antibias. This could be a poster, story, puppet
Use this resource with children 1. To draw childrens attention to issues of fairness relevant to them 2. To provide an opportunity to learn about similarities and differences, interdependence and how we can learn to live together. 3. To engage children in discussions about respect and equal relations
With your resource you will need to include a written summary including: the age of the children how it was incorporated into the program Evaluate against points 1 and 2 above what language you would use when communicating with children about the resource
