A conceptual framework represents the researcher’s synthesis of the literature on how to explain a phenomenon. It maps out the actions required in the course of the study, given his/her previous knowledge of other researchers’ points of view and his/her observations on the subject of research.

In other words, the conceptual framework is the researcher’s understanding of how the particular variables in his/her study connect. Thus, it identifies the variables required in the research investigation. It is the researcher’s “map” in pursuing the investigation.

Theoretical and Conceptual Frameworks in the Dissertation

In a quantitative study, the conceptual framework (a) identifies research variables and (b) clarifies relationships among the variables. Linked to the problem statement, the conceptual framework “sets the stage” for presentation of the specific research question that drives the investigation of interest (see the Conceptual Framework Examples).

The intent of Residency Project 6 is to prepare a 1-slide PowerPoint Presentation with a Conceptual Framework for your study. The research question from Residency Project 2 will be embedded in the prepared Conceptual Framework.
